[2018] Report on incidents of discrimination and violence on grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity and gender expression in 2016 in Saint Petersburg, Russia

This report is based on the results of the discrimination monitoring research undertaken by Coming Out LGBT initiative group in 2017.

The 124 incidents covered in the report represent the main types of discrimination and violence the LGBT community of Saint Petersburg faced in 2017: homophobic and transphobic hate crimes, setup date robbery, hate speech and verbal abuse, violations of the right to freedom of assembly for LGBT activists, police violence, discrimination in labor, education and service, as well as other forms of discrimination.

The report features descriptions of specific cases as well as an analysis of the situation with LGBT rights in Saint Petersburg from the perspective of Russian legislation and international human rights standards.
